Maldives had told Washington Post a lie against India
Earlier on Saturday, Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Khalil had called the Washington Post report a lie. The Washington Post report published on December 30 claimed that India had tried to influence the elections held in Maldives. After this, Abdullah said in an interview with a news channel that some people want to create a rift in the relations between the two countries. We have seen that news. We don’t know from where he got this information. Before that on Friday, India had also called that report false.

This report of Washington Post came on December 30.
Due to these reasons the relations between the two countries deteriorated
Tension had arisen between the two countries after Muizzu assumed power in November 2023. Muizzu was demanding removal of Indian troops from Maldives even before becoming the President. 45-year-old Muizzu had defeated pro-India candidate Mohammad Solih in the elections.
Muizzu had said that if India does not withdraw its army, it will be an insult to the democratic freedom of the people of Maldives. Muizzu had also described the presence of Indian troops as a threat to the future of democracy in Maldives. He said that the presence of another country’s army in the country without the permission of the Parliament is against the Constitution.
Muizzu went to China on his first state visit. Before this, every President of Maldives used to make his first visit to India only.
