The Government of India is coming up with a new scheme for road accident victims, in which road accident injured across the country will get cashless treatment. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari gave information about this scheme. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari told about the scheme that, if the police is informed within 24 hours after the accident, then under this scheme the victim will be treated free of cost for 7 days.
Government will provide free treatment
This cashless scheme will be implemented at the national level from March. Under this scheme, if someone meets with an accident on any road in the country, that person will be treated in a cashless manner. This simply means that the person injured in a road accident will be treated free of cost by the government. This treatment will last for 7 days and the government will spend a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh on it. Apart from this, any person who saves the lives of people injured in road accidents will also be given a reward. According to the information, a reward of Rs 5,000 will be given to the person who helps. The government is also thinking of increasing the reward amount.
Youngsters lose most of their lives in road accidents.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, after holding a meeting with state transport ministers on Monday, said, “Our first priority is road safety. 1.8 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents in 2024. Of these, 30,000 died due to not wearing helmets. Another serious matter is that 66% of those killed in road accidents were in the age group of 18 to 34. 10,000 children lost their lives due to wrong entry and exit points in schools and colleges.”
Nitin Gadkari also mentioned the shortage of 22 lakh drivers in the country. Gadkari also announced plans to set up Driver Training Institutes (DTIs) across the country and stressed the need for new rules to improve e-rickshaw safety. Other measures discussed at the workshop include implementing Smart Driver Assessment System (ADAS) in trucks, installing retro-reflective tape on vehicles and providing Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) for the safety of women and children. .
Treatment will start in March
Let us tell you that the National Health Authority (NHA) will monitor the implementation process of this program in collaboration with the police, hospitals and state health agencies. The scheme will be operated through an IT platform, which will link the e-Detailed Accident Report (eDAR) application of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways with the Transaction Management System of the National Health Authority. The initiative was started as a pilot project in Chandigarh on March 14, 2024 and was later expanded to six other states. Its main objective is to ensure immediate medical care after road accidents.
