The Income Tax Department said that some people are sending fake emails in the name of income tax refund and seeking bank details and personal information from the public, which is an attempt for a fraud.
This warning has been shared by the Income Tax Department on the social media platform ‘X’ (first Twitter). The post states that a fake email is spreading rapidly, which states that you have received an email for income tax refund, which will have to be verified immediately. The department has clearly stated that this email is completely fake and people should not click on any such mail or link.
What did the Income Tax Department say?
The Income Tax Department has written that the Income Tax Department never asks for bank details or any personal information through email. If you get such a mail, delete it immediately and do not click on a link.
Where to check the refund status?
The department has advised taxpayers to check their refund status only by visiting the official website of Income Tax Department www.incometax.gov.in. Apart from this, do not share any information through any third party website, email or link.
Why are such cheating growing?
These days, time is going on to file income tax returns. Taking advantage of this, cyber thugs are implicating people in the pretense of breathtaking offers or immediate refund. As soon as a person clicks on the link given in the email, he reaches the fishing website, where his bank details, PAN number and other personal information can be stolen.
What precautions should the public take?
Never trust unknown email.
Do not login to any other site other than ‘Inometax.gov.in’.
Do not share any information like OTP, bank details, debit card number, etc. on email or call.
If a fake email is clicked, change your password immediately and report to cybercrime.
For any information related to income tax refund by the government, only rely on the official platform. If any suspected email comes, complain to the Income Tax Department or Cyber Cell immediately.
