America’s new tariff policy can prove beneficial for India. According to a recent report, the US can apply less tariffs than tariff fixed on India.

On the other hand, many countries of Indo-Pacific will have to face heavy tariffs. This can increase foreign investment opportunities in India and can strengthen the manufacturing capacity of the country.

According to Arihant Capital report, India is in a better position in the new tariff system of America than many other Asian countries.

With this, India has a big opportunity to attract investment and become manufacturing. The report also stated that countries like Cambodia and Vietnam are facing more tariffs.

Tariff notice has not been sent to India yet

On July 8, Trump gave a formal letter to Japan Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and South Korean President Lee J-Mung and informed about the tariff. Later similar letters were sent to Malaysia and Kazakhstan.

However, India has not yet received any such letter. The report described it as a good sign for India. According to experts, America can give concession to India as a strategic partner.

According to the report, due to this new tariff policy of America, India’s situation is stronger than other countries. Taking advantage of this, India can become an important part of the global supply chain.

India’s ‘China +1’ strategy, PLI plans and trade deals will give India an opportunity to increase production in areas such as electronics, pharma, auto and textile.

Heavy tariff on 14 countries in Trump’s new tariff list

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump announced a new tariff on 14 countries. Many countries have been imposed tariffs ranging from 25% to 50%.

Trade agreement benefited from UK and EU

The trade agreement with the UK and EU has further strengthened India’s position.

The report also mentions the signing of the Indo-Bitten Free Trade Agreement in May 2025 and the ongoing conversation with the European Union. Both these trade agreements have given India a chance to become a global manufacturing hub.

The report also warns that the US is engaged to bring the supply chain to domestic land again under its ‘re-showing policy’. Trump is especially monitoring semi-sector, defense products and pharmaceuticals sectors.

In such a situation, if Trump takes a strict stance on his policies in these sectors, then India will get less benefit than expected.
