New rules for Aadhaar updates, will be able to change the name of the name-family member sitting at home; Know when to get the facility from when – Aadhaar Update Online from November 2025 UIDAI EXPANDS SELF SELF SERVICE Options

Aadhaar update online: Currently, most of the Aadhaar cards have to go to the Aadhaar service center to update the details. However, this will not happen since November 2025. Aadhaar card holders will be able to update many important details from home.

This facility is part of the new initiative of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which aims to make digital base services more convenient and accessible. In particular, for those who live in remote areas or who have trouble in movement.

Which details will be updated online?

Till now the base holders could update demographic details such as name (minor changes), address, gender and date of birth (to the fixed limit) on the Myadhaar portal. This scope will be further increased from November. According to UIDAI officials, now some important information can also be replaced online.

  • Changes in the name, such as spelling improvement or abbreviation will be able to complete the name online.
  • The update limit and scope of the date of birth will also be increased.
  • Information of family member, such as father or spouse’s name will also be updated online.
  • The address will also be updated through another resident’s base. This document or consent will be based.

Apart from this, the facility of mobile number and email address updates can also be provided digitally in future. At the moment, it can be updated by visiting the Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

How will the online update process be?

  • Myaadhaar has to login to the portal.
  • OTP will come on the registered mobile number.
  • The document has to be uploaded after OTP verification.
  • The update will begin after verification from the UIDAI system.

In some cases, such as video verification may be required for major changes in name or date of birth. The digital Aadhaar copy updated after the approval of all changes can be downloaded. UIDAI says that most requests will be processed 3–5 working day.

These things have to be taken care of

  • The documents uploaded should be cleaned, valid and matching updates.
  • The application may be canceled or the Aadhaar number can be temporarily suspended if fake documents or misinformation.
  • It will be necessary to visit the service center for biometric changes (fingers, eyes scan or photo), as it asks for physical verification.

UIDAI will release a list of new guidelines and sanctioned documents around November. With this digital facility, millions of base holders will now be able to improve information like name, address and family details.

Why was this change done?

The demand for digital services has increased since the Kovid epidemic. This initiative of UIDAI aims to reduce congestion at Aadhaar Seva centers and improve digital experience. So far more than 140 crore Aadhaar numbers have been released in the country, and crores of people take advantage of government schemes, banking and mobile services from it.
