A meeting of leaders of BRICS countries starting today in Brazil is starting. Leaders of 11 member countries will be involved in this meeting.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, one of the BRICS founding countries, is not joining it. Xi Jinping is not attending this summit for the first time after becoming the President of China in 2013.
He has tried to create BRICs as an alternative to Western domination over the last several years. In place of Jinping, he will join his full colleague and Chinese Prime Minister Lee Kiang Summit.
According to Professor Chong Ja Ean of Singapore University, BRICS is still a means for China to get out of Western pressure.
In such a situation, the domestic economic crisis and preparation for the upcoming political conference can be more important for joining. According to Assistant Professor Brian Wong of Hong Kong University, the non -arrival of Jinping should not be seen as disrespect to BRICS.

Jinping’s absence is not a shock for Brazil
The absence of Xi Jinping is not a major setback Brazilian President Lula de Silva. Jinping traveled to Brazil for the G-20 summit and a state visit in November 2024.
During that time Jinping and Lula had many agreements signed. Apart from this, Lula also went to Beijing in May. Prior to that, she attended a military parade in Moscow with Xi.
According to Professor Chong, China is currently struggling with serious economic challenges. Especially due to business conflict with America. Chinese leaders are busy preparing a five -year strategy before an important political conference this year.

Apart from Jinping, leaders of Russia and Iran are also not joining
Apart from Jinping in BRICS, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not come to attend. They will join through video links. Earlier in 2023, he also participated in the BRICS Summit in South Africa through video links.
Actually, Brazil is also a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) like South Africa. This is why he has a legal obligation to arrest Putin on charges of alleged war crimes in Ukraine Jung.
Iran’s President Masood Pajakshiyan has also not arrived to attend the summit. External Affairs Minister Abbas has come to participate in his place to participate in the Araghchi Summit.
The recent Israel-Iran war behind this is being considered as the reason. President Pajasakian is currently in Iran to deal with the situation after the war. Iran became a member of BRICS in 2024.
