Taliban was in power in 2021
The Taliban captured Kabul as well as the entire Afghanistan on 15 August 2021. Taliban has not yet been recognized as the government of Afghanistan in any country including America and India. Afghanistan has been constantly demanding recognition from the world.
Taliban Executive Defense Minister Mullah Mohammad Yakub Mujahid said in an interview that the government has met all the needs to gain recognition. Despite this, under the pressure of America, other countries are not giving us recognition.
Russia declared a terrorist organization in 2003
The Taliban was established in 1994 in the city of Kandahar, Afghanistan. It means a student in Pashto language. The organization was one of the groups that were involved in the ongoing civil war for power in Afghanistan after the Soviet army’s withdrawal in 1989.
Most of the Taliban members were the same Mujahideen who fought a war against the Soviet Union for nine years with the help of America and forced it to retreat. Due to this cooperation, the Taliban also got the support of America initially.
However, by the end of the 1990s, the Taliban’s image began to change. In 1999, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) passed a resolution, stating that the Taliban was giving shelter and training to terrorist organizations around the world.
A few months later, Russian President Vladimir Putin, while accepting the UN’s proposal, announced a ban on the Taliban.
In 2003, the Supreme Court of Russia officially declared the Taliban a terrorist organization. Russia alleged that the Taliban had connections with illegal organizations active in Chechnya and is trying to spread instability in Central Asia countries Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Despite this, in 2017, Russia took a diplomatic initiative and tried to negotiate between the then government of Afghanistan and the Taliban to establish peace in the country. This initiative of Russia indicates its complex relations with the Taliban.
