Three Indians were abducted on Tuesday (1 July 2025) in the West African country of Mali. These people used to work in a diamond cement factory. The Government of India has expressed deep concern over the incident and appealed to ensure safe and quick release of Indians.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement released late Wednesday that on July 1, several military and government locations of West and Central Mali were attacked by al-Qaeda militants. Meanwhile, the factory at Kayes was also attacked.

The Indian Embassy in Bamako is actively working on the entire incident. The embassy is in constant touch with local administration, security agencies and management of Diamond Cement Factory. Every information is also being given to the families of the abducted Indians.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that India gives top priority to the safety of its citizens abroad. The attack took place in the western part of the gardener, which has become the center of insecurity and terrorist activities in recent years.
