Will government pensioners get the facility of Leave Travel Concession even after retirement? Pensioners in the country do not get LTA after retiring. This question has been in the minds of pensioners for a long time. Now an official answer has come out from the central government on this. In fact, in January this year, the Defense Accounts Pensioners Welfare Association had written a letter to the Finance Ministry demanding that retired employees also be given the facility of All India LTC once every four years. He argued that retired employees should also get a chance to meet their relatives in the country and travel.
Now this has been replied by the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievance and Pension. In response, it has been said that the suggestions given in your letter have been recorded and necessary action will be taken on the right time.
What is LTC?
LTC is a travel facility to the central government employees, under which they can travel twice every four years. Once in your hometown and once in any part of India. It raises travel expenses which include rail or air fare. But after retirement, this facility is closed, due to which pensioners have to bear their travel expenses themselves. That is why many pensioners’ organizations raised the demand that they also get LTC facility in a limited range.
Why is LTC necessary for pensioners?
Travel for retired employees is not just fun but a need. This not only strengthens social relationships, but also promotes emotional health. According to Satpal Singh, President of Defense Accounts Pensioners Association, he said the same in the letter.
What did the government say?
On behalf of DOPT, Under Secretary Lalit Kumar replied that the suggestions made in your letter of 17.01.2025 have been recorded and action will be taken at the appropriate time. Although this answer is neither direct approval nor reject, it is clear that the government is considering this demand.
What can happen next?
It is likely that in the coming time, the government may restore LTC facility for pensioners. For example, all India LTC can be found once every four years. Permission to travel to a fixed rent or class can be allowed. Special provisions can be made for more people from 65 years.
