The demonstration in Serbia has once again gained momentum in several cities over the resignation of President Alexander Wusik and demanding immediate elections. Thousands of protesters blocked roads in the capital Belgrade and other cities from Sunday night to this morning.
The protesters blocked the roads with iron fences and garbage containers at many places in Belgrade. The movement of trains was also stopped on the bridge over the Sava river. In Novi Sad, protesters threw eggs at the office of the ruling populist Serbian Progressive Party.
Earlier on Saturday night, about 1 lakh 40 thousand people took to the roads in Belgrade. Police and protesters clashed during the protest. The police released tear gas shells and arrested dozens of people. Now their release is being demanded.
On November 1, 2024 in Serbia, 16 people died after a shed of Novi Sad railway station collapsed. The protest against the government started in December, which has been going on for the last 7 months. People allege that the accident occurred due to corruption in construction projects.

The then PM-Transport Minister resigns after the accident On January 28, 2025, the then Prime Minister Milos Wuswik had to resign due to the accident. Earlier, former Transport Minister Garan Vesic also resigned. In the Novi Sad incident, 13 people were accused of corruption. Among them was Goraran Vesic’s name.
Former Prime Minister Wuswik had said that he does not want tension in the country to increase further, so he is leaving his post to calm the situation. Wuswik was as Prime Minister since May 2024. Prior to this, he has held the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister.
People stop visiting for 15 minutes every day for 8 months The protests in Serbia include large-scale students. They stop the trains for 15 minutes every day at 11.52 pm every day. This was the time when there was an accident of falling visor at the railway station. After the accident, studies in universities of the country have also come to a standstill.
The protests intensified on 24 January. People stopped going to work. The tension increased when a girl was injured in a clash between the opposition and the ruling party supporters during a 24 -hour blockade on the busiest road in Belgrad, the capital of Serbia.
When Novi Sad railway station was built, the mayor of the city was Wuswik Wuswik was the mayor of Novi Sad from 2012 to 2020. Meanwhile, work related to the building was done at the railway station. Due to this, there was heavy pressure on Vususvik to leave the PM post. However, the real strength in Serbia has the President.
