The US government has banned the new visa interview for foreign students.
The appointment of Indian faculty in US University-College has decreased by up to 45%. This year only 380 Indian professors got jobs, compared to more than 700 last year.
Foreign faculty appointments have also decreased in the US, this year 2500 got jobs, which was more than doubled at the time of Biden last year. Also, the number of Indian students going to America has also been reduced.
This year only 2.31 lakh students enrolled, while in 2024, 3.31 lakh students went to America. Two major reasons for this are believed to withdraw the university’s admission offer and not to issue visas from the American Embassy.
Eliminated the quota of black faculty
Trump ended the diversity, equality and inclusive (DEI) project in the US. Under this, the quota of Indians and other black faculty was fixed, but now it is not so.
The end of this quota made the entry of white professors easier. Trump has instructed the college-university to give importance to white professors in the executive order given. Due to this, the number of white faculty in the American campus is increasing.
According to the American Campus Watch Group Neberhood, the US University has also recorded a decrease in the number of foreign visiting professors. This trend is more visible in New York, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, Eastern America.
Some universities have reduced the recruitment of foreign faculty due to economic reasons or policy pressure.
Number of foreign students decreased under Student Exchange Program
Prof. of Boston College Chris Glass told Bhaskar that the number of foreign students in the US has decreased under the Student Exchange and Visitor Information System. As of April this year, the total number of foreign students has declined by 12%.
Many students are not getting F-1 (student visa) due to strictness in giving visas to the US embassy. The immigration policies of the Trump administration can complicate the visa process.
The American Embassy has not made any announcement about re -starting the new student visa interview. New students visas have been closed since 27 May in all countries. Only the already released student visa interviews are being done. The US State Ministry says that a visa will require social media profile investigation.
America increased strictness on foreign students

- The US government has banned the new visa interview for foreign students two weeks ago. External Affairs Minister Marco Rubio issued an order regarding this. The objective of the order is to prevent Jewish opposition and leftist ideas in the universities of the country.
- Rubio issued an order to American embassies around the world and said that they should not schedule new interviews for student visas, as the Trump government is going to tighten the investigation of the social media profiles of students coming to America.
- He further said- With immediate effect, the Consular section should not allow the new appointment for the student or exchange visa (F, M and J) Visa until further guidelines are issued.
