In the UN Security Council meeting, member countries voted on the draft seeking to implement ceasefire in Gaza.
The US has veto on the proposal to set a ceasefire in Gaza of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Voting was held for this in UNSC on Wednesday, in which 14 out of 15 countries voted in favor of ceasefire in Gaza.
The proposal also demanded the release of all hostages and removal of humanitarian aid sanctions. The US was the only country to vote against this proposal.
The US used its veto power to stop it. US Ambassador to the United Nations Dorothy Shia said the proposal would weaken the ceasefire’s ‘diplomatic efforts’.
The proposal was presented by 10 UNSC countries Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Gayana, Pakistan, Panama, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Somalia, on which Britain, France, Russia and China also agreed.

US Ambassador Bid- America not in favor of this proposal
Acting US Ambassador Dorothy Shia said before the voting started, said, “

The US is not in favor of this proposal, and there should be no surprise. Since the commencement of this struggle, the US has taken a very clear stand that Israel has the right to protect itself.
Shia said that we should remember that the United Nations has not considered Hamas as an ‘terrorist’ organization. We will not support any move that does not condemn Hamas and does not demand Hamas to leave weapons and leave Gaza.
What is veto power that America used
The veto power is a special power given to five permanent members (USA, Russia, China, Britain and France) of the United Nations Security Council. Under this, these countries can reject any proposal of the Security Council, no matter how important it is.
This means that if any of these countries also vote against a proposal, then that resolution cannot be passed, even if all the other 14 members (10 temporary and 4 permanent) are in its favor.
