New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar today held a press conference regarding the Delhi Assembly elections. During this period, by-elections for two assembly seats were also announced. One of these two seats is Milkipur assembly seat in Ayodhya district of UP, while the other is Erode assembly seat in Tamil Nadu. Voting will be held on both these assembly seats along with the Delhi Assembly elections. Voting will be held on both the seats on February 5 and the results of both the seats will be declared on February 8.

Milkipur by-election was missed last time

Let us tell you that last time by-election was to be held on Milkipur seat of UP, but due to the matter being in the court, the by-election could not be held. Apart from this, voting for the 70-member Assembly of the country’s capital Delhi will also be held on February 5, while the counting of votes will be done three days later on February 8. The Election Commission announced the election dates on Tuesday. The tenure of Delhi Assembly is ending on 23 February. There are 70 assembly seats in Delhi, out of which 58 are for general category while 12 seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste.

On this occasion, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that India will soon make a new record of being a country with more than one billion voters. He also pointed out that the year 2024 was the year of elections globally, when two-thirds of the world’s population voted in various elections in democracies. CEC said, “We also had elections in eight states and union territories. There was a good atmosphere, new records were made in the Lok Sabha elections in terms of voting percentage, people’s participation, women’s participation.” He said that the number of women voters is also going to be around 48 crores.
