The Election Commission has organized a press conference regarding the assembly elections in the capital Delhi. During this, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that this is my last PC. He appealed to the voters, especially the young voters, to continue voting in this manner. He said that we set a new record of maximum voting in the Lok Sabha elections. He said that the number of voters in electoral roles has crossed 90 crores, soon we will have 1 billion voters. He also told that the number of women voters is also going to be around 48 crores.
Questions raised on EVM
Regarding Delhi elections, he said that we hope that Delhi will vote from its heart. There were so many achievements during the elections, but with them also came some concerns. During this it was said that the counting of votes was done incorrectly. It is also said that the names of groups or localities were deleted. Regarding EVM it was said that it could be manipulated. Along with this, it was said that how voter turnout increased after 5 o’clock, there was mismatch between voters and counting, counting was slowed down, all these issues were raised.
Voter list is prepared after survey
He said that there can be no deletion in this regard. It is important for India to know that there is no process in which verification happens every year. Its survey is conducted every year, which starts in October. Each party is given two copies. If you have any objection please let me know. A copy of the draft is published at the polling station in every village. In such a situation its deletion cannot occur. This happens every year. Where there is a fight for every vote, what will be the situation if you remove the name from any seat? Suppose even if one percent changes here and there, then the time is from January 5 to October 1, but during this time no information is given whether its name has been deleted or it has been added. If one or two names are missing here and there, that too is corrected.
EVM cannot be hacked
On hacking of EVMs, he said that EVMs are commissioned 7-8 days before the election date. After this, a mock poll is done in front of the agent. On the same day the battery is inserted in the EVM, the EVM is sealed on the same day. After this, on the day of polling, the seal of the polling booth is broken in front of them. Polling agents are there throughout the day also. In the evening, the voting numbers are informed to them in Form 17C. After this the EVM is brought back and sealed in front of the polling agent. Even on the day of counting, the seal of the EVM is opened in front of them. After this, they are asked to tally the voting numbers on the basis of Form 17C. The votes of any five VVPATs in front of the polling booth are counted. EVM cannot be hacked. There cannot be any viruses or bugs.
He targeted Elon Musk without taking his name. The Chief Election Commissioner said that a global IT expert said that EVMs can be hacked. Now they are saying that it took us one and a half months to do the counting whereas in India the counting is done in a day.
