Mohali SSP Harmandeep Hans said that the accused have been arrested in the supervision of DSP Rupinderdeep Kaur Sohi. Police investigation revealed that the accused used to call themselves pilots on Facebook and sometimes engineer.

Used to make fake profiles on Facebook
SSP Harmandeep said that the thugs used to make fake foreign profiles on Facebook and Instagram. Then make women and men friends in confidence and would give them the pretense of sending expensive gifts or dollars. Later he would get money in the name of custom or tax. If no one is caught in their net, then the accused also blackmailed married people by showing their pornographic chat or photo to married people in many cases.
Many shocking facts have been revealed in the preliminary investigation of the gang of foreign thugs caught by Mohali Cyber Police. Investigation has revealed that the gang was targeting citizens of various states of India through social media. The accused used to make fake profiles on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, calling themselves foreign citizens, in which they showed themselves a foreign boy or girl.

Network spreads in many states
SSP Mohali Harmandeep Hans said that there have been many shocking revelations in the investigation. This international cyber thug gang has hunted people on a large scale across the country. The gang network was spread to many states of the country and it was working in a fully organized manner. He told that:
- More than 350 Indian citizens have been confirmed cheating. The accused befriended people through social media and lured them to send expensive foreign gifts and dollars. Then the amount was recovered in the name of custom duty, tax or documents.
- The total cheating amount has reached about 15 crore rupees. From each victim, from 30 thousand rupees to 3 lakh rupees. In some cases this amount has been found even more.
- Married women and men were made the main target. They were implicated by forming an emotional relationship on social media. Later, private chats and photos were blackmailed by threatening to make it viral.
- The gang ran a fake call center in India. This call center was being run in a house rented in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh from where foreign nationals were targeting people across the country.
Mohali police appeal:
- Do not befriend unknown foreign profiles.
- Do not send money in the name of any gift or dollar.
- Immediately report any suspicious activity to the cybercrime police station Mohali.
