Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday received a bomb threat through an e-mail. The threat claimed that an IED (improvised explosive device) was placed in the court premises. After this news, the Chandigarh police immediately took action and started searching the court premises. SDPO (Central) Udaypal Singh of Chandigarh Police said, ‘The Registrar Office of the High Court received an e-mail, which was said to have a bomb. As soon as the information was received, the police started a thorough search of the entire campus. In terms of security, most parts of the court have been evacuated and the entry of common people has been temporarily stopped. So far no suspicious item has been found in the search, but the police is investigating with full vigilance.

Similar threats were given in Haryana on Wednesday

Please tell that on Wednesday, the office of the deputy commissioner in Ambala, Haryana was also threatened with similar bombs. At the same time, in Gurugram and Fatehabad, government offices were also threatened with bombing. Later, all the threats in the investigation turned out to be fake. In many parts of the country, schools, hospitals and government offices are receiving such threats in many parts in the recent past, which have proved to be mostly fake. For example, in May 2025, many schools and hospitals in Delhi also received threats through e-mail, but no threat was found in the investigation. However, at that time also the police conducted a precautionary search operation.

Punjab and Haryana High Court established in 1919

The Punjab and Haryana High Court is located in Chandigarh and is the highest judicial body for Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory Chandigarh. It was established in 1919 and was then known as the Lahore High Court. It is one of the oldest high courts in the country and was given the current name in 1966. It is currently in Sector-1 of Chandigarh, designed by famous architect Lee Corbusier. This court oversees the legal matters of both the states and monitors its proceedings.
