The first cutoff time in IPL league stage matches used to be 10.56 minutes, but after the new rule, it has now been 11 to 56 minutes. The BCCI had implemented this rule from 20 May, but now Kolkata Knight Riders have objected to it. KKR has written a mail to the IPL, stating that these steps should have been taken earlier as Kolkata had suffered heavy losses this season due to rain.

Let me tell you, on 17 May, the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore was to be played, which was completely washed away in the rain. Even the toss could not be done in the match. Earlier on April 26, the result of the Punjab vs KKR match could not be passed due to rain. CEO Venky Mysore of Kolkata Knight Riders said in an email sent to COO Hemang Amin of IPL that however, these changes in the rules may be necessary in view of these condoms in the middle of the season, but there should be more uniformity in the way these changes are implemented.
Rain broke KKR’s dream of playoff
It was further written in the mail that when the IPL 2025 resumed, it was clear that the match played between Kolkata and RCB on 17 May could be washed away in the rain. The forecast was in front of everyone. If this rule had been earlier, it could have been likely to match at least 5-5 overs due to 120 minutes of extra time. Mysore said that in that match, the chances of KKR reaching the playoffs were over due to rain. Such decisions and inconsistency in implementing them are not correct for this level tournament.
