Indian Railway IRCTC Train Ticket: If your ticket is not confirmed, climbing in the reserved coach can now be overwhelming. Indian Railways has implemented a major change since 1 May 2025, which has strictly in travel rules. Now if you have waiting tickets, you cannot travel in reserved coaches of train like sleeper, 3AC, 2AC or other AC coaches.
Railways say that only passengers holding completely confirmed tickets will be allowed to travel in reserved coaches. Passengers whose tickets are in waiting and have not been confirmed even after the chart are not confirmed will not be allowed to travel on the train. If they forcefully climb into the coach, TTE can impose heavy fines on them and can also take off the train at the next station.
What to do if some tickets are confirmed and some are left in waiting?
Suppose you booked 4 tickets but only 2 tickets were confirmed and the remaining 2 were left in waiting. If there is no confirmation or rac until the waiting ticket chart is built, they will be automatically canceled and the online ticket money will be returned to the account.
Online waiting tickets: According to the rules of IRCTC, even after the chart is in the entire ticket waiting, it will automatically be canceled and the entire money will be refunded. No money will be deducted.
Waiting tickets taken from counter: To cancele such tickets, the passenger will have to cancel the ticket within the stipulated time limit either IRCTC website, 139 service or nearest railway counter. To get the refund, you have to return the basic ticket.
If there is a waiting ticket and you still want to travel?
In such a situation, you will have to purchase general tickets and travel to the general compartment. You can also buy this ticket from the station or through the UTS mobile app. If you climb the general compartment without a valid general ticket, it will be considered an unauthorized journey. A fine or jail may be fined or jail under Section 137 of the Railway Act.

The reason behind this decision
Railways have taken this step because such reports and videos were often upset on social media, in which the confirmed passengers were upset to sit on their seat, because passengers with waiting tickets used to climb in reserved coaches without permission. This led to inconvenience and quarrel situation.
Now the Railways has made it clear that it is illegal to travel in reserved coaches without a valid ticket, whether you are with someone. Passengers have been advised to check the status of your ticket before the journey and if the ticket is in waiting, then the general should travel with tickets.
