Women’s hockey team announced for European round of FIH Pro League, Salima Tete gets command

India announced a 24 -member team for the European phase of Women’s Pro League Hockey on 12 May, in which midfielder Salima Tete has been made captain. India will play two matches against Australia, Argentina, Belgium and China in London, Antarp and Berlin from 14 to 29 June. The team will start their campaign against Australia on 14 June.

Veteran forward Navneet Kaur will be the vice -captain. The team consists of goalkeeper Savita and Beachu Devi Kharibam. Veteran Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, Jyoti, Suman Devi Thowdam, Jyoti Singh, Ishika Chaudhary and Jyoti Chhatri will be the defender. Midfield will be responsible for Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, Sujata Kujur, Manisha Chauhan, Neha, Salima, Lalremasiami, Sharmila Devi, Sunita Toppo and Mahima Tete. Deepika, Navneet, Deepika Soreng, Baljit Kaur, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal, Beauty Dungdung and Sakshi Rana will be forward.

The standby list includes goalkeeper Bansari Solanki and defender Ajmina Kujur. Speaking on the selection of the team, Harendra Singh, the head coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, said that we have formed a balanced team which has a mixture of experience and young talent. The European phase is an important phase of the Pro League and we are expecting challenging matches against some of the world’s best teams.
