Mock drill today: The Government of India has announced to organize a nationwide mock drill on 7 May today. The purpose of this mock drill is to make citizens aware of the identity of air-red sirens, safe ie evacuation process and other emergency methods. In view of the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, this practice is being done to strengthen safety preparations.
Are banks open today?
Recently, after the introduction of military operation ‘Operation Sindoor’ across the country, there was a confusion among the people about whether banks and markets would remain closed due to mock drills. However, according to the list of holidays of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), all banks across the country will be generally open on Wednesday 7 May. Mock drills will be held in many states after 4 pm today, but it will not affect the banking service. Customers can do their banking transactions and functioning.
Bank holiday in May 2025
Banks will remain closed for a total of 12 days this month, including national holidays, state holidays, all Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays.
May 1 (Thursday) – Labor Day/Maharashtra Day: Banks will remain closed in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Nagpur, Kolkata etc.
May 9 (Friday) – Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti: Banks will remain closed in Kolkata.
May 12 (Monday) – Buddha Purnima: Banks will remain closed in many cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Bhopal, Jammu, Shimla.
May 16 (Friday) – State Day: Bank closed in Gangtok (Sikkim).
May 26 (Monday) – Kazi Nazrul Islam’s birth anniversary: Bank closed in Agartala.
May 29 (Thursday) – Maharana Pratap Jayanti: Bank holiday in Shimla.
Also, banks will be closed every Sunday (4, 11, 18, 25 May) and second and fourth Saturday (May 10 and 24).
Despite mock drills across the country today, banking services will be available normally. Citizens will not have any problem in any bank related transaction. Mock drill is only safety practice, it will not have any effect on the essential service of daily life.
