Online scam: Nowadays the new WhatsApp scam has arrived in the market. The message of your acquaintance number comes that OTP Messay has come and send it. So be alert. If you have a message from a friend or acquaintance in which he says that I have an OTP by mistake, please send me, then be alert. This is a new WhatsApp scam, in which people are losing their own accounts.
How is the scam happening?
Users told on social media that they received a simple message from their WhatsApp contacts – like friends, relatives or knowledgeable. It wrote that an OTP has been sent by mistake to their number and they should be forwarded to that code. Since the message comes from a reliable contact, people share OTP without thinking more. But in reality WhatsApp of that contact is already hacked and now the hacker is looking for the next victim.
On sharing OTP, the user’s WhatsApp account is logged out, and they are unable to login again. Similarly, the hacker further targets the contacts of the same user and the scam bicycle keeps on moving.
What actually happens?
This is a fishing scam. The hacker hacks a WhatsApp account of a user and then asks that account to send OTP to their contacts. As soon as the OTP shares are, the hacker captures the new account. After this, the user is neither able to run WhatsApp from his messages, nor media nor any device. By the time they contact meta or police, the hacker has made many more people victims.
How to avoid this scam?
Never share OTP with anyone, whether it is a friend or family. OTP is only for you.
If someone says that OTP has come by mistake, then ignore it.
Do not use OTP yourself until you are sure what you are putting it for.
If a suspicious message comes, immediately report to the Meta and call your real contact and ask whether he had sent the message or not.
Keep two-step verification on, so that no one else can login without your knowledge.
Such scams are increasing day by day, and with a little carelessness you can lose all your data and privacy.
