The 2024 sports drama ‘Chandu Champion’ was based on the life of Padm Shri Muralikant Petkar who was India’s first gold medalist at the Paralympics. Petkar won a gold medal at the 50m Freestyle Competition at the 1972 Summer Paralympics held in West Germany. Karthik Aryan played 80 -year -old Muralikant Petkar in the film. Kabir Khan, who directed ‘Chandu Champion’, who directed ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ’83’. However, Karthik Aryan was not his first choice for this film.

Sushant Singh Rajput had rights of ‘Chandu Champion’

In a recent interview, Bhuvan Arora, who played the role of Muralikant’s friend Karnail Singh in the release of 2024, shared that Sushant Singh Rajput had bought the rights of ‘Chandu Champion’ before his death in 2020. Talking to Hindi Rush, Bhuvan said, ‘Ironically, I had a film Chandu Champion. Initially, Sushant was about to do it. He had the rights of that film. Sushant was also with the right to the film’s story. Even Muralikant sir said this in an interview. I hit Sushant at the airport and told me that he was going to make a film about a Paralympic star player, which was also discussed with both. However, Karthik Aryan was cast in the film after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

New revelation after the release of Chandu Champion

The ‘fake’ actor further said, ‘It had gone out of my mind. Recently, when Chandu Champion was released, I saw an interview by Muralikant sir, in which he said that Sushant had to do the film initially. I do not know much about it, but the irony is that I was not in that film at that time. When I became a part of this film, Sushant was not. I cried a lot when I read the news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death on the phone and remembered every moment spent with him. Bhuvan Arora worked with Sushant in the 2013 romantic comedy ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’.
