Shivamoga: An FIR has been lodged against the exam officials taking big action in the case of the students taking off the students during the CET examination in Shivamoga district of Karnataka. The incident came to light during the CET examination at Adichunchangiri School in Sharavatinagar in Shivamoga district. Students appearing in the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (CET) were allegedly asked to take off their janeu and defense sutras (Kalava).
Case filed under BNS sections
According to the police, on the basis of the complaint lodged by a person named Natraj Bhagwat, FIR has been registered under sections 3 (2), 299, 351 (1) and 352 of BNS, 2023 under sections 3 (5). The police has started investigating the case, so that it can be ascertained under which circumstances the students were allegedly instructed to land religious symbols.
At the same time, the reaction of Dr. MC Sudhakar, Higher Education Minister of Karnataka has also come out on this incident. He described it as “very unfortunate” and confirmed that such complaints have also been received from an examination center in Bidar. However, he clarified that the examination process went on smoothly at most other centers across the state.

Speaking to ANI, he said, “This incident is very unfortunate. It happened not only in Shivamogga but also in Bidar. The process went on smoothly at all other places except two centers. Those responsible for checking or searching any gadgets or even whatever protocols were followed were never instructed to investigate or remove such items.”
He said, “The removal of these things was not mentioned during the examination. We respect all religions, their faith and their actions. We cannot accept it and we are going to take action.
In fact, three students who came to take CET exam were stopped because they were wearing Janeu and Kalava in their hands. The guards at the gate opened up Janeu and Raksha Sutra (Kalava), while a student was adamant on not opening Janeu. Due to which it was stopped at the gate for that 15 minutes. After this, the Raksha Sutra tied in his hands was taken off, but he was given the exam with Janeu.

The victim student Abhigyan’s maternal uncle said, ‘My nephew for CET went to Chunchaungiri PU College. There, the guard asked to take off the Kalava worn inside the T -shirt and Kalava worn in his hands. The nephew refused to do so. The nephew said that even though he does not take the exam, he will not take off. After this, he was seated outside for 15 minutes. The victim’s maternal uncle said that he was later allowed to take the exam with Janeu but he was taken out of his hands and put him in the dustbin.
After getting information about this incident, there was anger among the people. The people of the Brahmin organization reached the gate of the institute and started answering questions from the guards. As soon as the information was received, the police also reached there and the people who were protesting were somehow persuaded and sent from there.
