The Yunus government of Bangladesh has started erasing the legacy of Sheikh Hasina’s father and former President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The current government has decided to make changes in the text books of Bangladesh. According to Daily Star, from now on it will be told in the book that Bangladesh got independence from Pakistan in the year 1971, not by Mujibur Rahman but by Ziaur Rahman.
Ziaur Rahman was the husband of former Bangladesh President Khaleda Zia. He became the Co-Army Chief after the independence of Bangladesh. Later he also became the President of the country. In the year 1981, he was murdered by some people associated with the army. According to the report, Mujib’s title of Father of the Nation has also been removed in the new book. This book will be taught to students from primary to secondary level.

Controversy regarding declaration of independence of Bangladesh It has always been disputed in Bangladesh as to who declared independence there. The Awami League claims that this announcement was made by ‘Bangabandhu’ Mujibur Rahman, while Khaleda Zia’s BNP party gives credit for it to its founder Ziaur Rahman.
According to the report, this is not the first time that such a change has happened in the text book of Bangladesh. With the change of government there, there has been a change in the name of the leader who declared independence in the book.
Sheikh Hasina had made changes in the book 14 years ago Researcher Rakhal Raha, who was among the authors who made changes in the text book, said that the earlier books did not contain any fact-based information. NCTB officials said that when the independent government was running in the country from 1996-2001, it was written in the text book that Sheikh Mujib declared the independence of Bangladesh and Ziaur Rahman read the declaration.
After this, when Khaleda Zia’s government was formed in 2001, she made changes in it. After Sheikh Hasina came to power in 2009, there was a change in the books in 2010 also. It was then added to the books that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had declared independence through a wireless message before being arrested by Pakistani troops on 26 March 1971.
Official said – no one will be glorified in the books Now it will be told in the new books that on March 26, 1971, Ziaur Rahman was the first to announce the independence of Bangladesh. A day later, on March 27, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence.
Rakhal Raha said that now no person will be unnecessarily glorified in the history book. Also, any exaggerated statements made about anyone will also be removed.
Regarding the change in the name of the Declaration of Independence, Rakhal Raha said-

The Constitution can be amended with a two-thirds majority. If you have majority then you can do anything. No wrongdoing can be justified with the help of the Constitution. Truth is above the Constitution.

Some books have already come in the market and have started being distributed to students from January 1.
There will be changes in 33 books, books 1-3 will remain the same. According to the report, the syllabus of old books from class 4th to 9th is being changed. Whereas the books of classes 1 to 3 will remain the same as before. Under this, the syllabus of a total of 33 books will be changed.
The syllabus of books of other subjects like Bengali, Mathematics, Bangladesh and Global Studies, Civics and Citizenship, History of Bangladesh is being changed. According to Rabiul Kabir Chaudhary associated with NCTB, the amendment process is already underway and is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
