Pan Card Fraud: A new case of fraud related to PAN card has come to light. Where fraudsters are posing as government officials and giving the promise of ‘Download e-PAN card free online’ through email. Press Information Bureau (PIB) has termed this email as fake and has appealed to the people to be alert. PIB has urged to share information about such fraud on X (formerly Twitter).
How does e-PAN fraud work?
In this fraud, fraudsters send a fake email. The theme of which is, ‘Download e-PAN Card Free Online: A Guide.’ The email contains a link which, when clicked, takes users to a fake website. Here they are asked for personal information. If someone shares information, it goes straight to fraudsters, which can lead to identity theft or financial fraud.

What not to do?
don’t reply: Do not respond to suspicious emails.
Do not open attachments:This could be malware.
Do not click on the link:It may lead to fake website.
Do not copy-paste links: These may look legitimate, but may lead to fraudulent sites.

How to report fraud?
If you receive a fake email or website in the name of Income Tax Department, then:
Send email or website URL to webmanager@incometax.gov.in.
Also send a copy to incident@cert-in.org.in.
Include the email’s Internet header (if possible).
Delete the email from your inbox after reporting it.
Official way to download e-PAN card
To avoid fraud, follow the official method of downloading e-PAN card.
Visit the official e-Filing portal of the Income Tax Department.
Select Get New e-PAN option.
Enter your Aadhaar number and verify.
Verify Aadhaar through OTP.
Submit by giving Aadhaar information.
You will get a verification message. Along with this, you will get an acknowledgment number, which will be sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. To avoid this type of fraud, be aware and exercise caution.
