Every year many pilgrims decide to end the year by visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple on 31st December. Even in 2024, there has been a significant increase in the number of devotees visiting Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in late December. The board had earlier said it would strictly follow the National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines limiting the number of pilgrims to 50,000 per day and had said that only devotees with RFID cards would be allowed to visit Vaishno Devi in ​​view of the New Year rush. Permission will be given to go towards the building. Talking about the number of devotees visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi temple in 2024, SMVDSB CEO Anshul Garg said 94.83 lakh pilgrims offered prayers at the temple, the second highest number in a decade.

He said that in the year 2012, the number of pilgrims had touched the highest level of 1.04 crores. The number of pilgrims decreased from 93.24 lakh in the year 2013 to 78.03 lakh in the year 2014, 77.76 lakh in the year 2015 and 77.23 lakh in the year 2016. In the year 2017 this number increased to 81.78 lakh and in the year 2018 to 85.87 lakh and in the year 2019 this number again decreased to 79.40 lakh. According to reports, around 94.80 lakh pilgrims visited Mata Vaishno Devi Ji this year, which is just 42,000 less than last year, when the annual pilgrimage was 95.22 lakh.

200 new CCTV cameras will be installed on the pilgrimage route

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) will install 200 new CCTV cameras along the pilgrimage route to ensure a safe and hassle-free experience for pilgrims, officials said. Regular meetings are being held between the Shrine Board and the district administration to address the security concerns and streamline the darshan process amid the increasing number of pilgrims. The Shrine Board reiterated its commitment to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience for all devotees during the year-end festivals.
