The Tamil Nadu government is going to present the state budget on the date of Friday 14 March. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin shared a video on X on Thursday regarding this budget. In this video, ரூ symbol has been used in Tamil language instead of the official symbol of Rs. Sharing this video, CM MK Stalin wrote in Tamil that the purpose of this budget is to ensure the widespread development of Tamil Nadu for the benefit of all sections of the society.
The controversy has increased after this video of the Tamil Nadu government surfaced. There is already a rift between the Tamil Nadu government and the central government on the new education policy and three language formulas. Now the budget video has given air to this controversy. Let us know what is the history of ₹ symbol and now why it is in controversy.
DMK leader’s son made symbol
The DMK government of Tamil Nadu has objected to the ₹ symbol. For this reason, its place was used before the budget. However, the important thing is that it was made by Udayakumar Dharmalingam, son of former DMK MLA N Dharmalingam. The government had organized an open competition for a symbol of Indian currency rupee. 3331 people made people and sent it to the government. Five of these people were finalized and finally elected ₹ symbol.
At this time DMK leader N Dharmalingam had said that he is proud of his son and it is a proud moment for the Tamil people. This logo is designed by combining Devanagari’s ‘R’ and Roman letters ‘R’, which is inspired by the Indian tricolor and was designed to make it different from other currencies. The line made in ₹ symbol is a symbol of equality and tricolor. Udaya is an educationist and designer to make this logo. He is an assistant professor in IIT Guwahati.
P Chidambaram unveiled
People of Indian currency rupee were unveiled by Tamil Nadu leader P Chidambaram. The DMK was currently in power in Tamil Nadu and the Congress government was at the center. Even today both these parties are in alliance. The 2024 Lok Sabha elections were also contested together. However, now MK Stalin has used the Tamil word ரூ instead of this symbol. BJP and other parties have targeted DMK on this.
BJP leader K Annamalai wrote “The state budget of the DMK government for 2025-26 replaces the symbol of the rupee designed by a Tamil, which the whole of India adopted and included in our currency. Thiru Udaya Kumar, who designed the symbol, is the son of a former DMK MLA. How foolish can you be, Thiru MK Stalin?”
