
PV Sindhu
India’s star player and two -time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu had to be out of the tournament with a three -game defeat despite winning the first game against Kim Ga Yun in the first round of the All England Badminton Championship. However, there was good news for India in the women’s doubles where Commonwealth Games bronze-winning pair Trasha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Chinese Taipei’s Sho Yun Sung and Chien Hua U 21-17, 21-13 to advance to the final-16.
The match lasted for more than an hour
29-year-old PV Sindhu, who is returning after a toe injury, lost 21-19, 13–21, 13-21 against the world number 21, 13–21, 13–21 against Kim, the world number 21 in the match for a few more than an hour in Arena Birmingham. Sindhu had earlier won the only match against Kim at Hong Kong Open in 2019. This is another disappointing result for Sindhu. She failed to move beyond the first round of Indonesia Masters in the same month after India Open Super 750 was out of the quarter -finals in January.
PV Sindhu played with tape
PV Sindhu played tape on the right leg in this match. She was in a strong position by taking a 20–12 lead in the first game. But after this he gave Kim a chance to return, who scored 19-20. The Indian player, however, won the first game by scoring significant points. Kim had achieved the rhythm at the end of the first game and then did not give Sindhu any chance. The Korean player took a 4–1 lead in the second game and crossed 7–2 with the cross court smash. Taking advantage of Kim’s mistakes, Sindhu scored 6-9, but the Korean players won the 42 shot rally and was ahead 11-9 until the break.
Sindhu gave a chance to equalize
Kim then pushed Sindhu on the backfoot and took a 17–12 lead with a powerful cross court smash. Sindhu gave a mistake in the service and gave Kim seven game points and then entangled the shot on the net and gave the Korean player a chance to compete 1-1. In the third and important game, Kim made a faster and took a 7-2 lead but Sindhu scored 7-9. Kim was ahead 11-7 until the break. The Indian player then hit several shot on the net and out on the net, causing Kim to take a 17–11 lead. The Korean player scored eight matches points with drop shot and forehand Cross. Sindhu saved a point, but then lost the match by hitting the net.
