Punjab cabinet Approved the new Excise Policy for FY 2025-26 on Thursday. Through the new excise policy, the Punjab government aims to raise revenue of Rs 11,020 crore in FY 2025-26. The new excise policy was approved in the meeting of the Council of Ministers under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Addressing the media after the cabinet meeting here, Punjab Finance and Excise Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that his department will raise Rs 10,200 crore by the end of March this year, while a target of Rs 10,145 crore has been set for 2024-25.

Alcohol shops will be allocated through e-tender process

The Excise Minister said that the Punjab government has targeted to raise revenue of Rs 11,020 crore for the financial year 2025-26. He said that during the previous governments, revenue of Rs 6,100 crore was received from the Excise Department. Cheema said that under the new excise policy, liquor shops will be allocated through e-tender process. He said that the quota of indigenous liquor has been increased by three percent. Cheema also informed that new Excise Police Station will be established to further strengthen the enforcement and a committee has also been formed in this regard.

Announcement of increase in cow welfare cess on alcohol

State Finance and Excise Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that under the new excise policy of the Punjab government, a new bottling plant has been approved. Cow welfare cess on alcohol has also been increased from Rs 1 per proof liter to Rs 1.50 per proof liter (quantity at specified temperature with a fixed ratio of alcohol. He said that this will increase the revenue of the government by Rs 16 to 24 crore.
