Highest grossing film of 1994
Often the secret of a blockbuster film is its great star cast, spectacular locations, shooting on a grand scale, great songs and a spicy story. But, today we are going to tell about a film in which a lot was seen, but there was nothing special. Nevertheless it was one of the highest-grossing films of 1994. It became a blockbuster just on the basis of its story. There was no superstar in this film. The film was made on a limited scale, due to which many actresses rejected the film.
Remake of Bollywood film became a hit in South
Apart from the story of the Hindi film we are talking about, there was nothing special. Even the singing wasn’t that good. Nevertheless, the film became a sensational blockbuster and was even remade in two South Indian languages. Nana Patekar starrer ‘Krantiveer’ was a box office hit and also became the highest-grossing film of 1994. Along with Nana, Dimple Kapadia, Atul Kulkarni, Mamta Kulkarni and Paresh Rawal were also in lead roles in the film.
These stars rejected Krantiveer
Sridevi was earlier offered the role of Megha Dixit, but she rejected the film. Similarly, Kajol was offered the role of Mamta Kulkarni, but she also rejected the film. When the film was ready for release, no one wanted to buy it because Nana Patekar was not known as a superstar. However, when director-producer Mehul Kumar told them that Nana would cover the losses himself, the distributor decided to buy the film.
The film received many awards as soon as it was released
Made with a limited budget of Rs 2 crore, ‘Krantiveer’ was a blockbuster and the highest-grossing film of 1994. ‘Krantiveer’ had earned Rs 9.35 crore at that time, which was more than its budget. ‘Krantiveer’ won three Screen Awards, four Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. The film was remade in Telugu as ‘Punya Bhoomi Na Desam’ (1995) and in Kannada as ‘Parody’ (2007). The film was followed by its sequel ‘Krantiveer: The Revolution’ (2010). However, it was not a hit.
