Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai presented a budget of Rs 3.70 lakh crore for FY 2025-26 on Thursday. It has given tax relief of Rs 148 crore. No new tax is proposed in the budget presented in the state assembly. Desai told the House that a budget outlay of Rs 3,70,250 crore for 2025-26 is Rs 37,785 crore or 11.3 percent more than the previous financial year. The state government proposed a reduction in stamp duty on mortgage deeds and a tax relief of Rs 148 crore as a motor vehicle tax on electric vehicles (EV).

Developed Gujarat 2047

Desai announced several new schemes in his budget speech and said that the budget is based on five columns – social security, human resource development, development of infrastructure, green growth and development of economic activities. The minister said that the state government has drafted the ‘developed Gujarat 2047’ to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of ‘developed India’ by 2047. He said, “For this, I propose a ‘developed Gujarat Fund’ of Rs 50,000 crore in the next five years. I propose an allocation of Rs 5,000 crore under the budget. ”

Two expressways will be built

Two expressways will be developed in Gujarat. The first of these is the ‘Namo Shakti Expressway’ connecting Banaskantha to the coastal areas of Saurashtra. The second expressway is ‘Somnath-Dwarka Expressway’ from Ahmedabad to Rajkot, which will be expanded to the pilgrimage centers including Dwarka, Somnath and Porbandar. The budget proposes to establish a ‘Gujarat Reform Commission’ to bring necessary changes in administrative processes and integrate new techniques. He said that six ‘development centers’ including Surat Economic Zone will be developed. For this, regional economic schemes are being developed for Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Coastal Saurashtra region and Kutch. Desai said that a new service commissioner will be set up to exploit the capacity of the service sector.
