These days cyber criminals in India are trying to cheat people in a new way. After the missed call scam, a new scam has now surfaced, which is being called ‘Call merging scam’. UPI has warned about this scam and advised people to be careful. In this new scam, thugs ask users to merge the call and get OTP (one-time password) without users’ knowledge.
After receiving the OTP, they do not need any other permission and they withdraw money from the bank account. To avoid this type of fraud, the government and other agencies are constantly warning people and advising them to be alert.
NPCI warns
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has warned users about this new scam on its X account. He has said in this post that scammers are using call merging to cheat you. NPCI, while sharing this information, has advised people to be vigilant. In this post, UPI has also explained how this scam works and how can it be avoided.

This is how fraud
Scammers call you for an event or job and tell you that they are talking to your friend’s phone number. Then they ask you to merge the call, but in reality the second call is for OTP. If you merge the call, scammer listen to your OTP. OTP either comes through a message on your phone or through a call. To avoid this scam, you should not raise spam calls.
This is how to protect
If you call your number with an unknown number and ask you to merge the call, then be cautious and do not merge the call. If someone claims to call with your bank or any information, first check the first identity of the collar. If you get an OTP without your knowledge, report immediately on 1930. This will make your bank come to know about fraud and will be able to take necessary steps.
