The High Court summoned two claimants of the same name of the Padma Shri Award.
Cuttack: The Odisha High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to two persons of the same name asking them to present their case on 24 February. Both have claimed that they were given the Padma Shri Award in 2023. Odisha’s “Mr. Antaryami Mishra” was named 56th in the list of Padma Shri Award winners of 2023. He was announced to honor him for his contribution to literature and education.
What is the whole matter?
Journalist Antyami Mishra by profession went to Delhi and received the award from President Draupadi Murmu. Later, doctor Dr. Antaryami Mishra filed a petition in the High Court claiming that a person named his name had received the award in his place. The doctor who filed a writ petition claimed that he had written 29 books in Odia and other Indian languages, due to which his name was included in the list of Padma Shri Award winners of 2023.
According to the petitioner, there is no book in the name of a journalist. During the hearing, Justice SK Panigrahi said that despite the rigorous verification process by the government, there has been a disturbance due to similar names, causing concern about the credibility of the selection process. The court has directed the two contenders to be present with all the publications and materials to confirm their claims. Notices have also been issued to the defendants including the Union of India in this case. (With language inputs)
