Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced an increase in the metro rail fare by about 50 percent on Saturday on the recommendation of the rent assessment committee, which will be applicable from Sunday. BMRCL has also introduced separate tariffs for peak and non-peak hours like taxi riders like Ola and Uber. Most of the highest fare has been increased from Rs 60 to Rs 90 and minimum balance from Rs 50 to Rs 90.
BMRCL said, “The rent assessment committee presented its report on December 16, 2024 recommending the revised rent structure. According to Section 37 of the Metro Railway O&M Act, the recommendations made by the rent assessment committee will be binding to the Metro Railway Administration.

Travel fare between 0-2 kilometers, 2 kilometers to 4 kilometers – 20 rupees, 4 kilometers to 6 kilometers, 6 kilometers to 8 kilometers – 40 rupees, 8 kilometers to 10 kilometers – 50 rupees, 10 kilometers to 10 kilometers 12 kilometers – 60 rupees, 15 kilometers to 20 kilometers – 70 rupees, 20 kilometers to 25 kilometers – 80 rupees, 30 kilometers to 30 kilometers and more than 90 rupees.
Peak over tariff system
Regarding the peak over tariff system, BMRCL said that it will give an additional five percent discount on the smart card at the rate of five percent during the peak hour, as well as five percent discount in off peak hours, which will enter the metro system On the basis of time, the effective trip will be 10 percent for traveling during off-pak. The non -peak over day will start from the time of the metro service starting from 8 am, then from noon to 4 pm and 9 pm in the week from 9 pm to the time of closure. Metro railway officials also said that a discount of 10 percent will be offered on smart cards on all Sundays and national holidays.
Metro fare increased after bus fare
This increase has occurred soon after a 15 percent increase in government bus fares in Karnataka. Last month, Bangalore Central MP, PC Mohan posted on ‘X’ that the proposed increase in metro fares has been stopped. He said on ‘X’, “The 45% metro fare hike proposed by BMRCL on February 1 has been stopped. The Modi government has directed BMRCL to submit a comprehensive report before taking any decision. This is a major win – ensuring transparency, accountability and appropriate metro pricing. ” (Input- PTI language)
