A two -day strike is going to take place in public sector banks next month. That is, banks will be closed for two days across the country. In fact, bank unions said on Friday that a two -day nationwide strike has been called for two days from March 24, including 5 working days in the week and adequate recruitment in all cadres. According to PTI news, the strike by United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an organization of nine bank employees unions, has also been called to fill the post of employee/officer directors in public sector banks.
Demand to withdraw DFS’s recent instructions immediately
According to the news, UFBU said in a statement on Friday that after proper discussion and deliberations, it has been decided to start a movement program with a two-day continuous strike on 24 and 25 March, 2025. In addition, UFBU has demanded immediate withdrawal of recent instructions from the Department of Financial Services (DFS) on the incentives related to the performance reviews and performance, which threatens job security and create divisions among employees.
Demand for exemption from income tax also
The UFBU alleged that the micro management of the PSB on policy matters by the Financial Services Department has weakened the autonomy of the respective boards. It also demanded the resolution of pending issues pending with the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and amending the Gratuity Act to increase the boundary on the lines of the scheme to Rs 25 lakh and give exemption from income tax. Members of the UFBU include All India Bank Employees Union (AIBEA), All India Bank Officer Federation (AIBOC), National Bank Employees Confederation (NCBE), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) and Indian Bank Employees Confederation (BEFI).
Decision to change the dates of strike
AIBOC general secretary Roopam Roy said that being one of the major components of UFBU, AIBOC has decided to change the dates of the strike as per the dates set by UFBU. Earlier, AIBOC threatened to go on a two-day nationwide strike on February 24-25, 2025.
