US President Donald Trump has lifted the ban on the supply of 2000 pound bombs to Israel. Former President Joe Biden had banned the supply of these bombs in order to reduce the number of deaths in the Israel-Hamas war.
Posting from his social media account on Saturday, Trump wrote, “The orders that Israel had given to America and which have been paid. They are being sent to Israel. According to news agency PTI, a Trump official confirmed sending heavy bombs to Israel.
During his tenure as President, Biden had banned the supply of these bombs to Israel to prevent a full-scale attack on the city of Rafah in southern Gaza in May 2024. However, Israel captured the city just a month later. Because of this, 10 lakh people were forced to migrate.
Ban imposed due to Israel’s entry into Rafah
In an interview given to CNN in May last year, Biden had accused Israel of mass targeting people. He said-

Civilians have been killed in Gaza. These bombs are used to target population centres. I made it clear that if they enter Rafah… I will not supply the weapons that have been used in other cities.
After Biden’s ban, 1700 500 pound bombs being sent to Israel were also stuck. However, after a few weeks they were handed over to Israel.
Decision taken just 5 days after swearing in
Donald Trump has taken this step only on the fifth day of his tenure. He has also described the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel as his achievement. So far, Hamas has released 7 Israeli hostages in the ceasefire. In return, Israel released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
Talks on the second phase of ceasefire are yet to begin. In this, there will be discussion on the release of all Israeli hostages from the captivity of Hamas and permanent ceasefire.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened to start a war again against Hamas if it does not release the remaining hostages.
