Yoshita was arrested from his house in Beletta.
In Sri Lanka, Yoshita Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested by the police on Saturday on charges of corruption. According to the Daily Mirror, Yoshita is accused that when his father was President, he illegally bought property.
Mahinda Rajapaksa held the presidency from 2005 to 2015. Yoshita Mahinda is second among the three sons of Rajapaksa. The Criminal Investigation Department also questioned Mahinda Rajapaksa’s brother and former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the corruption case last week.
Police said former naval officer Yoshita was arrested from his home town Beletta. Yoshita has been taken on remand till 27 January after presenting before the magistrate in Colombo. Police spokesperson SSP Budhika Manathunga said that Rajapaksa has been arrested under the Money Laundering Act.

Yoshita caught by purchasing land in the name of grandmother
The Attorney General on Saturday directed CID to arrest Yoshita. This whole matter is related to Daisy Forest. Daisy Mahinda is the mother of Rajapaksa. Yoshita is accused of bought a land in Mount Lavinia in the name of her grandmother. The police is checking the money used to buy that land. The case is being investigated under the Money Laundering Act.
The trouble of the Rajapaksa family has increased since the government of President Anura Kumara Disanayake came to power in November last year. Disanayake promised to send all the accused who had done wrong things during the presidency of Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Last month, Rajapaksa’s eldest son and MLA Namal Rajapaksa was also questioned by the police in another property case. Earlier, Mahinda Rajapaksa had filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Friday demanding restoring his security and intervening in the matter.
Government said- this is not a revenge action Sri Lankan government minister Nalinda Jayatisa claimed that Yoshita was not arrested just because he is the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Rather, he has been arrested because he illegally bought land.
He said that there is no political conspiracy behind the recent arrests. He said, “If someone has bought land or property illegally or suspicious and in such cases CID is investigated.”
The minister said that the investigation that has started continues. Soon they will get bail. However, the trial will continue. It is the duty of the judiciary to implement the law. The government only helps in this.
Former naval officer has been Yoshita
Yoshita Rajapaksa is working as a Lieutenant Commander in the Sri Lanka Navy. He has also worked as the main employee of the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Then he also appeared as an assistant to the President. Yoshita has also been the former captain of Sri Lanka National Rugby Union Team and Navy SC Rugby team.
The Disanayak government has reduced the security of Mahinda Rajapaksa significantly. There used to be 350 soldiers earlier under the security of Rajapaksa, who are now only 60. Rajapaksa claimed that his life was threatened by LTTE. He has appointed Prime Minister Harini Herini, Cabinet and Defense Establishment as defendants in the case.
