Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Saturday. Before the meeting, PM Modi warmly welcomed Prabowo and the two leaders shook hands.
In his address after the meeting, PM Modi said that,
“Indonesia was the chief guest country on India’s first Republic Day. It is a matter of great pride for us that as we celebrate 75 years of the Republic, Indonesia is once again a part of this historic occasion. I am the President Welcome Prabowo Subianto to India.”
Posting on Twitter, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the discussions between the two leaders will further strengthen relations between India and Indonesia. Jaiswal described it as “a step forward in India’s relations with an important partner of its ‘Act East’ policy.
Guard of Honor welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan
President Prabowo reached Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday morning, where he was welcomed with a guard of honour. Prabowo met President Draupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi here. In this meeting, there was talk on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and increasing defense and trade cooperation.
During this, Prabowo said,
Indonesia considers India a very good friend. India was one of the first countries, perhaps the first country to recognize our independence, supported us in our struggle for independence, we will never forget what India did to help us.
President Prabowo committed to enhancing closer cooperation and partnership with India. Expressing his happiness of being the chief guest on Republic Day, Prabowo said that he felt doubly honoured.
Prabowo will be on a state visit on 25 and 26 January.
