IND vs Eng: The T20I series against England began in Kolkata on 22 January. Through this match, 14 months later, India’s bowler Mohammad Shami was expected to return, but the fans were shocked when the name of the bowler was seen missing from India’s playing XI. In such a situation, questions have been raised once again on Shami’s fitness.
Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami sweated fiercely for about an hour during the Indian team’s net session in Chennai on 24 January but the situation was not clear about his much -awaited return to top level cricket. Shami was expected to play in India’s first T20I against England in Kolkata but the team management decided to postpone his return. Like the Eden Gardens, Shami was actively present in Chennai during the net session. He made a light jogging session with Assistant Coach Abhishek Nair.
Delay in Shami’s return
The 34 -year -old fast bowler took part in the throwing drill for a few minutes with fielding coach T Dilip before going to the net. Shami had a heavy bandage tied on both legs. He started with a short run-up and then bowled at a good pace. After throwing a few balls with a short run-up, Shami started bowling with full run-up but did not appear completely in the rhythm. His ball hit the bottom of the stump on some occasions while the bowling coach Morne Morkel was watching him closely playing the role of wicketkeeper.

Bengal fast bowler Shami then took a few minutes break to talk to Morkel and Head Coach. Shami then returned to the nets to start bowling. Gradually, his rhythm improved but he did not appear in his old color. This is quite surprising as Shami was selected in the Indian team for the series and Champions Trophy against England after playing in the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. But here he did not appear in his best form and initially he did not bowl to any of his fellow batsmen. Now it has to be seen whether Shami can play in the second match or not.
