Gukesh World Ranking: World Champion D Gukesh has registered another big achievement in his name and he has now reached fourth place in the new FIDE rankings. With this, he achieved the distinction of becoming India’s highest ranked chess player, surpassing Arjun Erigaysi. Gukesh achieved the feat on Thursday when he defeated Germany’s Vincent Keimer in the prestigious Tata Steel tournament being held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. This was his second win in this tournament. The move is all the more significant for Gukesh as he was recently awarded India’s highest sporting award, the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna. His rating now stands at 2784 points, while Errigassi has slipped to fifth place with 2779.5 points. Thus, Gukesh defeated Erigaysi as India’s number one chess player.

In the world rankings, Norway’s great player Magnus Carlsen remains at the first place with 2832.5 points, and he is the undisputed number one player in the world. After this, comes American Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura (2802 points) and Fabiano Caruana (2798 points). For D Gukesh this achievement is another milestone in his chess career. In December last year, he won the world title by defeating Ding Liren of China in Singapore, which was a historic moment for him.

Arjun Erigaysi achieved the status of India’s highest-ranked player in September last year. He achieved his highest rating of 2801 points in December, making him the 15th player in the world and the second player from India to achieve a rating of 2800 points or more, the first being Vishwanathan Anand. Thus, Gukesh’s new achievement reflects his tremendous progress and dedication in the field of chess, and he looks set to achieve even greater success in the future.
