The government has started this facility under a pilot project.
India’s first ‘affordable’ airport food outlet is seeing around 900 customers daily in the first month itself. The government had prepared to create economy zones at airports. Now these economy zones are going to be started in other airports also soon. Affordable tea, water and snacks are available in this economy zone. However, there is no seating arrangement here like in a restaurant.
How cheap are things here?
In this cafe built at the airport, other food items including tea and water are available much cheaper than other stalls. Tea is available for Rs 10 in this cafe. Here a water bottle is also given for Rs 10. Coffee, sweets and samosas are available for Rs 20. This café has been started by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India. Let us tell you that many times passengers had complained about food items being expensive at the airport. Passengers said that at some places at the airport, fees are up to 200 percent more than outside restaurants. In such a situation, this facility has been started.

He wrote on social media platform X that from the day I took oath as Civil Aviation Minister. My mission is to make air travel more affordable and accessible for every Indian. Kolkata Airport’s Udan Yatri Café is an important step in that direction.
Survey report on airport food?
A recent survey found that 60 percent of air passengers believe that food and drinks at the airport are very expensive. The survey revealed that the price of a samosa at the airport can be more than Rs 200, while coffee or tea is sold for Rs 200-300. This price is many times higher than that of food shops present in malls or other public places.
