Suryakumar Yadav
Indian T20 team captain and aggressive batsman Suryakumar Yadav, while admitting not getting a place in the Champions Trophy team, said that he was most disappointed that he could not perform well in ODIs and this decision of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Players selected for the prestigious competition are entitled to join the team. The selectors have ignored Suryakumar for the 15-member Indian squad for the Champions Trophy. He will, however, continue to lead the team in the five-match T20 series against Jos Buttler-led England starting here on Wednesday.
no regrets
Suryakumar is considered one of the most explosive batsmen in the T20 format currently due to his ability to play big shots with ease across the ground. However, he has failed to continue the success of the T20 format into ODIs. In ODIs, he has scored 773 runs in 37 matches at an average of 25.76. On the eve of the opening match of the T20I series against England, when Suryakumar was asked whether he was disappointed at not getting a place in the Champions Trophy team, he said why would anyone be disappointed? If he does well in ODIs, he will get a place in the team. If you don’t do good then this won’t happen. There is no harm in accepting it.
Great team selected for Champions Trophy
He said that along with this, if you look at the team selected for the Champions Trophy, it is fantastic. Whoever is in this team are good performing players. All of them have performed well in this format and I am very happy for them. Suryakumar said that he regrets that he did not perform well in this format. If I had done well, I would have been in that team. The player who has performed well deserves a place. He said that if Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, who is returning from injury, remain fit, they will prove to be a ‘dangerous combination’ against any team in the Champions Trophy.
