8th pay commission: The Central Government has announced the 8th Pay Commission. The eagerness among central employees and pensioners has increased since the government’s announcement. The period of the 7th Pay Commission ends on 31 December 2025. In such a situation, it was being speculated that the new Pay Commission could be applicable from 1 January 2026. However, the expert believes that this process can take more time than the scheduled time and there may be a delay in implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.
How long will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the 8th Pay Commission on 16 January 2025. However, no official announcement has been made regarding the chairman, members and rules of the Commission so far. According to the expert, the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented in the year 2026 as the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission were implemented in 2016 even earlier.

On 4 February 2025, in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State for Finance Ministry confirmed that the government had approved the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission. The central government usually forms a pay commission every 10 years. The 7th Pay Commission was formed in 2014 and its recommendations were implemented from January 2016. Similarly, the 6th Pay Commission came into force from 1 January 2006.
Will dearness allowance be connected in basic salary?
At the same time, before the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, there has been a demand to add dearness allowance (DA) to the original salary. In a recent meeting, the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) requested the government to add more than 50% dearness allowance to the basic salary. These demands have been doing this demand for a long time.
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav made it clear that the time of the 8th Pay Commission has been set up to decide that recommendations can be implemented before the end of the 7th Pay Commission’s time period. He also said that soon the chairman and two members of the Commission will be appointed. However, no timeline has been described by the government.
