8th pay commission: The Central Government approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission on 16 January 2025. The announcement was made during the meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After that it was expected that the government would announce the names of the members of the Pay Commission in early April. So far, such an announcement has been made by the government, but a big update related to the 8th Pay Commission has come out.
How will the posts of 8th Pay Commission be filled?
According to the government circular, the appointments in the 8th Pay Commission will be done according to the rules fixed by the Department of Personnel (DOPT). DOPT will release standard guidelines from time to time. The Department of Expenditure (DEA) under the Ministry of Finance has proposed to fill 35 posts in the 8th Pay Commission through deputation.
This means that people from different departments will be selected and kept to prepare the recommendations of the Pay Commission. When the commission’s work is completed, that is, it will submit his recommendations to the government, then the people appointed to these posts will return to their original roles or departments.
When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?
The government has not yet approved the names of the members of the 8th Pay Commission. However, the recent circular of the government shows that it is working rapidly and the names of the members of the Pay Commission may be announced very soon. After the formation of the Pay Commission, it will submit its recommendations to the government. After that the government will decide when to implement the 8th Pay Commission.
According to sources, the 8th Pay Commission may come into force from 1 January 2026. However, some media says that it may be delayed and the 8th Pay Commission may be applicable from 2027. In case of this happening, the government can pay salary increased from 1 January 2026 as an arrear.
