5 Days Working In Banks: Crores of bank customers of the country want to know that there will be five days working in banks? So far, banks in the country are closed on all Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays. Those who are working, they go to the bank and settle the work on Saturday. Government gave information
The government has told in Parliament that the proposal to implement a 5 -day working week in banks is currently under consideration. The Indian Bank Association (IBA) has recommended the closure of the bank on all Saturdays. Right now the government is thinking about this.
What is the proposal?
The All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) has demanded that the banks remain open only from Monday to Friday. He says that this will improve the health, work quality and morale of the employees. In today’s time, this system has been adopted in many countries and Private sectors.
Currently, government banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Banks work normally on the remaining Saturdays. This rule was implemented in 2015. Rajya Sabha MP KC Venugopal asked questions in Parliament on this issue. He wanted to know what the government is doing on this proposal, whether it has stopped due to lack of staff and what is the plan ahead.
Government’s answer
The government said in response that the proposal of IBA is in consideration. Also told that every bank recruits staff according to its need. As of 31 March 2025, 96% of the posts are filled, the rest of the vacant posts are common reasons like retirement or resignation.
