India And amid increasing tension between Pakistan, 27 airports in North, West and Central India have been closed till 5:29 am on Saturday, 10 May. The closure of these airports has caused heavy disruption in air tariffs. Due to this, Indian airlines have canceled 430 flights. This is 3 % of the total fixed flights of the country. If you also have a flight during this time, then find out from the airline that it is not canceled. On the other hand, airlines in Pakistan have canceled more than 147 flights, which is 17% of their total daily flights.

A global flight tracking platform Flightradar24 indicated that the airspace from the western corridor-Kashmir to Gujarat on Thursday was largely empty of civilian aircraft. The airspace of the western region of India between Pakistan to Kashmir and Gujarat was free from civilians, as the airlines avoided the sensitive area.

These airports closed

The affected Indian airports include Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Halwara, Pathankot, Bhuntar, Shimla, Gaggal, Dharamshala, Kishangarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Mundra, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Kandla, Keshod, Bhujan, Gwalair and Handan. The airports used mainly for military charters are also included in the closed. American Airlines also canceled its Delhi-Nuyork flight.

Indigo

IndiGo informed the passengers that its services from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh and Dharamshala are being affected due to the changing conditions of the airspace. The airline especially advised passengers to check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport. IndiGo also indicated that flights from Bikaner will also face similar disruption due to the implemented sanctions. IndiGo said in a post on X on Thursday, “To provide assistance to our customers, we are offering a complete relaxation of change and cancellation fees for the journey from Srinagar by 22 May 2025, for booking on or before 22 April 2025.

SpiceJet

SpiceJet expressed similar concerns in its announcement, stating that flights from Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar and Amritsar have been suspended till next notice. The airline highlighted that the closure of the airport would affect the departure and arrival as well as the resulting connecting flights. This advised passengers to make their journeys plan accordingly and informed through the official communication channels of the airline.

Akasa Air

Akasa Air, however, did not list the affected routes individually, but has issued a travel advisory. The airline urged passengers to monitor their booking and stay updated through their website and helpline. Given that Akasa operates flights to several affected northern cities including Srinagar and Chandigarh, its operation has also been disrupted.
