The final match of the World Test Championship is to be played next month, with Australia and South Africa face to face. Australia will look at the title for the second time in the WTC final. At the same time, South Africa would like to win the title for the first time. The WTC final will be played at Lord’s from 11 June to 15 June, for which the 32 -year -old opener has claimed. Australia’s Marcus Harris has strengthened his claim for the World WTC final by scoring a century in the county championship. Harris played a brilliant innings of 121 runs in Lancashire’s first innings in a four -day match against Northamptonshire at the county ground in North Committees and caught the attention of the selectors. He hit 18 fours in a century innings.

Top run scorer of season

This is the third century of Harris’s county season 2025. He is the highest run -scorer in Division Two 2025 of the County Championship. He has scored 749 runs in 5 matches at an excellent average of 83.22. He scored 43 runs in the second innings for Lancashire. However, despite Harris’ performance, Lancashire’s team lost to Northamptonshire by 70 runs.

Significantly, Harris has not played any Test match for Australia since the beginning of 2022. He was ignored in the 2023 World Test Championship final despite being part of the team. However, this time he can be given a chance as the team captained by Pat Cummins will make every effort to defend the WTC title won at the Oval two years ago.

Big challenge in front of selectors

Travis Head made the innings debut with veteran Usman Khwaja on Australia’s recent Sri Lanka tour, but is expected to play his favorite position number 5 in the finals with South Africa. In such a situation, the team doors can open for Harris. However, Harris is expected to get a tough competition from young Sam Contas. Contas had a chance to debut against India during the Border-Gavaskar series and impressed with his batting. Now it will be interesting to see whether selectors express trust in Contas or give a chance to Harris running in excellent form.
