17 Christian houses were burnt down on Christmas Eve in Bangladesh.

A day before Christmas in Bangladesh, 17 houses of people belonging to the Christian community were burnt. The incident took place in Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bandarban district. The victims claim that when they had gone to church to pray on the occasion of Christmas, their houses were set on fire taking advantage of the opportunity.

People of the Christian community said that they have suffered a loss of more than 15 lakh Taka (Bangladeshi currency) in this incident. As soon as information about the incident was received, the police immediately visited the spot.

Police said no formal complaint had been registered in connection with the arson till Wednesday afternoon, but action would be taken if a complaint is received.

People of Christian community were living here for 4 months

According to the information, 19 families of Tripura community lived in SP Garden of Lama Sarai in Bandarban (Chittagong Hill Tracts). This garden belongs to Benazir Ahmed, a senior official in Hasina government. It is known as SP Garden.

After August 5, Benazir Ahmed and her family members left this area. After this, 19 families from Tripura community came and started living here. Yesterday evening, when everyone went to the neighboring church to offer prayers on the occasion of Christmas, miscreants took advantage of the emptiness and burnt down the houses.

At the same time, people belonging to the Christian community said that this is their land. Earlier the name of this area was Tangjhiri Para. It was captured by Benazir Ahmed’s people and the name was changed to SP Garden.

Threats were received in November, police did not take action even after complaint

Ganga Mani Tripura, a member of the victim’s family, said that they were being asked to vacate the area since November 17. They were demanding huge amount to stay here.

Ganga said that she had filed a complaint against 15 people, including Stephen Tripura, at the Lama police station, but the police did not take any action. Now due to the burning of the house, all the families are forced to live under the open sky. Ganga said that we have nothing now that the house has been burnt to ashes.
